Who is responsible for your data?

The data controller is Jake Boland, a sole trader based in Ireland. He runs AI Course Atlas. You can contact him by email at hello@aicourseatlas.co.uk.

Which laws apply?

The site is for people in the UK, so the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply. The controller is based in Ireland, so the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) applies too.

What happens when you visit the site?

The site runs no analytics, advertising or tracking. It has no accounts, no sign-up and no forms that send data to us.

Searches and filters on course lists run in your browser. They are added to the page address so you can share the page. Nothing is sent to us as you use them.

When you follow a link to a provider or a scheme, that site sees that you came from AI Course Atlas. Its own privacy notice then applies.

What technical data does Cloudflare handle?

Cloudflare hosts the site. To send you a page, it has to handle your IP address, the address of the page you asked for, your browser type and the time of the request. This data is used to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)). The interest is keeping the site working, fast and secure.

We don't keep our own copy of this data. Cloudflare keeps it only while it is needed to provide the service. Under its terms with us, it deletes it when that need ends, or when our contract with Cloudflare ends.

What happens when you email us?

Emailing us is optional. You never need to email us to use the site.

If you do email us, for example to report an error, we get your email address, your message and anything else you choose to include. We use them to reply to you and to check and correct the page you wrote about.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)). The interest is answering your message and keeping the listings accurate.

We keep your email while we deal with your message. We delete it within 2 years of our last reply, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

Do course listings name people?

Some can. A listing may name a course's instructors as the provider publishes them on its own course page. We use the names only to describe the course. If you are named and want your name removed, email hello@aicourseatlas.co.uk.

Who handles data for us?

Both act on our instructions under data processing terms. We don't sell your data, use it for advertising or build profiles of visitors.

Does your data leave the UK or the EU?

It can. Cloudflare and Google are based in the United States, and both may process data there.

Both companies are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension. The UK and the EU recognise that framework as giving adequate protection. If that ever stops applying, their terms switch to standard contractual clauses. For UK data, Cloudflare's terms add the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum.

Does the site use cookies?

AI Course Atlas sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Cloudflare can set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check that a visit isn't from a bot.

Are any decisions made about you automatically?

No. We make no automated decisions about you and don't profile you.

What are your rights?

You also have a right to data portability. It applies only to data we hold with your consent or under a contract, so it doesn't cover the data described here.

Your right to object

You have the right to object at any time to how we use your data. All of the uses above rely on legitimate interests. If you object, we stop, unless we have compelling grounds that override your interests. To object, email hello@aicourseatlas.co.uk.

How do you complain?

You can complain to us first, by email at hello@aicourseatlas.co.uk. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days.

You can also complain to a regulator:
